Floor Coating FAQs
We’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions from our customers and provided answers for each. Should you have any further inquiries, please feel free to reach out to us. Thank you.
Q. I've heard that there are stronger coatings than epoxy. Do you use Epoxy, Polyurea or Polyaspartic?
Great question! We work diligently to source the best products and processes for resinous coatings. Like any industry, there’s product advancments as time goes on. Many customer want to know “is Epoxy or Polyaspartic better?”. Simply put, Apex coatings will use what works best for your space.
Most garages benefit from a polyurea base and polyaspartic top coat. Epoxy floors became popular for their appearance and durability, but polyurea/polyaspartic coatings have become preferred by many professionals. This is because polyurea/polyaspartic coatings look similar to epoxy, but are up to four times more durable, making them a great option for your garage.
Epoxy still has its benefits and ideal uses. Commercial and Metallic projects typically still require an epoxy base.
We will be happy to discuss your options and what will work best in your space!
Q. I have a friend that did his own floor. What makes your product better than what he used?
Your friend likely chose a kit from a big box store or paint supplier, which prioritizes convenience and low prices. Unfortunately, these kits utilize lower-quality materials. They are essentially just epoxy paint. This will likely peel and flake within a year or two. The kits can save money in the short term, but increase your expense of replacing the failed coating in the furture.
In contrast, our product features a specially crafted insdustrial resin that is mixed on-site. The key to our outstanding floor durability is our thorough preparation process. Our detailed method involves diamond grinding every inch of your floor to create a strong bond and adhesion that will not flake or peel.
Q: I had a company apply epoxy to my garage floor a few years ago, but now it’s peeling, flaking, and coming up. How can I be sure your company will do a better job than they did?
Many painters and contractors purchase basic epoxy kits from local stores and market themselves as experts, often relying on acid chemicals to prepare your floor—a method that doesn’t always deliver the best results.
At Apex Coatings, we bring years of specialized experience in resinous flooring. Our projects include high school stadiums, malls, dog kennels, local restaurants, as well as residential driveways, patios, porches, and garages throughout East Alabama and West Georgia area.
With Apex Coatings, you can trust that your project will be handled with expertise and a dedication to quality craftsmanship.
Q. What should I do with all the stuff in my garage before you arrive?
Everything will need to be removed prior to our arrival. We provide floor coatings services and will need access to the entire floor.
Q. How long do I have to wait after installation before I can get on my floor?
24 hours after completion: light foot traffic may resume & lightweight items may be returned to the space. (i.e. – boxes or items that can be set into place) 48 hours after completion: Normal use can resume (other than Vehicles) and heavy items can be returned (i.e. Such as tool boxes, appliances, etc.). 72 hours after competition Vehicles traffic can resume and park.
Q. How do I clean my floors?
Our floors are extremely durable and easy to maintain. The flooring is impregnable, so it will not absorb dirt or moisture. This makes the floors much faster and easier to clean. In most cases, water is all you need to clean your floor! When you get a spill or dirt build up, we recommend a PH neutral cleaner.
Q. Can you do a garage in 1 day?
Yes! Most garages can be completed in one day using our flake floor systems. Major repairs, old coatings or multiple rooms could slow the process. But typically we can be out of your hair in less than 1 day.
Q. What is the minimum floor size you will service?
While small patios and porches are great spaces to have an Apex Coatings, our minimum is the equivalent to a standard garage. If your space does not meet the minimum alone, you can always add these spaces on with a garage coating.
